Dr. Rengaswamy Sankaranarayanan (1952–2025)
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dr. Rengaswamy Sankaranarayan. The attached IARC message highlights his enormous contribution to cervical cancer prevention across the globe over many years. He was a warm, generous colleague, full of humility and a wonderful teacher. There was always something to learn from each encounter with him. There will be many more tributes reminding us of his many achievements in research and clinical development to detect, downstage and prevent cervical cancer, validating the value of HPV vaccination and cervical screening. The IFCPC sends its sincere condolences to Sankar’s family and friends.

The IFCPC (International Federation for Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy) was created in 1972 in Mar del Plata with the aim of associating all the national societies in charge of cervical pathology and prevention of cervical cancer, in order to promote its screening and prevention through the development of cytology and - in the event of positivity - the wider use of colposcopy.
